Minister of Foreign Affairs of Norway: Georgia has achieved significant success - We would like to see the continuation of the process

Over the years, Georgia has achieved significant success in terms of democratization, human rights and good governance. We would like to see the continuation of the process in this regard and we appreciate the work that is being done to fulfill the recommendations issued by the European Union in June, said the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Norway, Anniken Huitfeldt, at the press conference held after the meeting with her Georgian counterpart, Ilia Darchiashvili.

"I confirm Norway's unwavering support for Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as its European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations.

During the meeting, we discussed a wide range of issues, including prospects for strengthening bilateral relations, tourism, trade. We discussed the relevant geopolitical and security context too. We also discussed the current situation in the occupied territories of Georgia. When it comes to security and NATO-Georgia relations, we appreciate Georgia's significant contribution to common security over the years. We are grateful for your contribution to the evacuation process from Kabul last fall. The continuation of the occupation of Abkhazia and "South Ossetia" is a violation of international law. Russia's "borderization" policy, kidnappings and detentions are causing difficulties for the local population - this is deplorable and completely unacceptable. We welcome Georgia's policy of dialogue, the goal of which is to defuse the situation in the face of Russian aggression. We once again call on Russia to fulfill the 6-point ceasefire agreement of 2008.

Over the years, Georgia has achieved significant success in terms of democratization, human rights and good governance. We would like to see the continuation of the process in this regard and we appreciate the work that is being done to fulfill the recommendations issued by the European Union in June.

Although we are not a member of the European Union, Norway is a very close partner of the European Union. Our relations are based on common values and principles," said Anniken Huitfeldt.
