During the negotiations held in the Parliament regarding the election of the Public Defender, the ruling team and the opposition agreed on the readiness for a compromise and continuation of consultations.
As it was said after the end of the meeting, today there was no discussion about the specific candidate who can be elected by the Parliament as the Public Defender.
According to MP Khatuna Samnidze, the main thing is that the discussions with Georgian Dream have started; it is difficult to make a prediction, although the parties agreed that they do not want to disrupt the negotiations and are ready for a compromise.
The Chairwoman of the National Movement faction, Khatia Dekanoidze, emphasized that the election of the Public Defender is an important issue from the point of view that it is part of the 12-point recommendation of the European Commission.
"There was no discussion of specific names and surnames. It is important for Georgia to have an independent Public Defender. We discussed what could be the basis of reachng an agreement", said Khatia Dekanoidze.
