Shalva Papuashvili: The main spirit of the meetings held in Germany is that Europe should be a space from Lisbon to Tbilisi

The main spirit of the meetings held in Germany is that Europe should be a space from Lisbon to Tbilisi, said Shalva Papuashvili, the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, who was on a visit to Germany.

According to Shalva Papuashvili, all Bundestag representatives and all factions feel that Georgia is part of Europe.

"Today, our delegation had meetings with the President of the Bundestag, Bärbel Bas, with the chairmen of the European Affairs, Legal Affairs, and Defense Committees. At all meetings, the main spirit was felt. This is the spirit that our population recently heard from German Chancellor Olaf Scholz when he said that Europe should be a space from Lisbon to Tbilisi. There is a feeling among all representatives of the Bundestag and all factions that Georgia is a part of Europe, therefore Georgia's accession to the European Union is a decision that will definitely be implemented," said Shalva Papuashvili.

According to the Speaker of the Parliament, at the meetings held by the Georgian parliamentary delegation with high political officials in the capital of Germany, the host party positively evaluated Georgia's efforts towards EU membership and noted that Germany supports the granting of candidate status to Georgia.

"We talked about the importance of a strong political decision. Next year, when it comes to making a decision on candidate status.

As for the technical parameters and various criteria required for the status, Georgia certainly meets these criteria, we have 12 more recommendations that are being worked on, we will do our best to finish this work as soon as possible and then we can expect that the European Union evaluates our work and makes relevant decision," said Shalva Papuashvili.
