MPs Teona Akubardia and Khatuna Samnidze: After July 5, 2021, there has been a tendency that the Ministry of Internal Affairs allows extremist groups to operate freely against the constitution

After July 5, 2021, there has been a tendency that the Ministry of Internal Affairs allows extremist groups to operate freely against the constitution - marginal pro-Russian groups have a "green light" from the Government, independent MP Teona Akubardia and Chairwoman of the Republican Party Khatuna Samnidze, said at the briefing in the Parliament. Thus they responded to the Kvareli incident, where Levan Berdzenishvili was not allowed to hold a lecture.

As the deputies stated, the police did nothing to protect Levan Berdzenishvili's constitutional right, and Berdzenishvili himself confirms that the police did not even think of helping him enter the hall where the lecture was to be held.

"From the photographs circulated in the media, it can be seen that violent, pro-Russian groups - Alt Info, Conservative Movement - were involved in the picketing process. It happens so often when these violent groups implement their ideas so that the Ministry of Internal Affairs does not prevent it. Accordingly, three MPs, me, Khatuna Samnidze and Ana Buchukuri, asked the newly created Investigative Service, as well as the Ministry of Internal Affairs, whether the General Inspection of the Ministry of Internal Affairs had started an investigation into this fact, and whether the Investigative Service had started an investigation, since Levan Berdzenishvili's constitutionally guaranteed right to movement was restricted. This appears to be a trend since July 5th, when the MIA allowed violent, pro-Russian extremist groups to operate freely in violation of our constitution, and the police who were on the scene at the time, didn't do anything to protect the constitutional rights of people," Akubardia said.

Khatuna Samnidze also spoke about the Kvareli incident, saying that pro-Russian violent groups have a "green light" from the Government.

"What we saw is a proof that marginal pro-Russian groups do not act independently and they have a "green light" from the Government, especially if we recall the speech of Irakli Kobakhidze in the Parliament, who spoke about Levan Berdzenishvili as a person who expressed thoughts against traditions," said Samnidze.

She also responded to the decision made today by the Court of Appeals, which reduced the sentence for the persons accused of organizing the July 5 violence. Samnidze notes that this fact once again confirms that the Government protects and incites these groups.
