Miriam Lexmann: The life of the former president of Georgia is at risk - games, tricks and delays must stop

A debate is being held in the European Parliament about the condition of Mikheil Saakashvili, the third president of Georgia.

In her speech, the European Parliamentarian Miriam Lexmann called Saakashvili’s health condition dangerous and noted that Saakashvili should be taken abroad immediately for treatment.

"The life of the former president of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili is at risk. Games, tricks and delays must stop. This shameful behavior by the Georgian Government is in direct contradiction to the Government’s stated European aspirations and values.

I once again appeal to the Georgian authorities to allow Mikheil Saakashvili to undergo his medical treatment abroad without delay. In accordance with Article 283 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Georgia, former President Mikheil Saakashvili must not be allowed to die in prison. The Government of Georgia bears full responsibility for his health and what may happen to him", said the MEP.
