The President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, expressed her desire to communicate with the founder of Georgian Dream Bidzina Ivanishvili, but noted that she does not have the opportunity to do so. As the President stated in an interview given to TV Pirveli, many questions are being asked today, including from partners, about where the decision-making center is, and it would be good to communicate with Ivanishvili in order to clarify these issues.
"I haven't tried, but I can say that I have a big desire today, because I believe that there is a great need for more clarity in Georgian politics. And there are many messages from abroad, which he should understand and listen to if he is the main decision-maker.
I have no means of communication, you are the best means. In order for political processes to be more transparent, if we are a democratic country, and I really hope that we are so far, there needs to be more transparency in all aspects. I would say to him, first of all, more clarity is needed about where decisions are made and in what form. It's very difficult to understand what's going on when you hear this rhetoric, sometimes there is cursing of our partners, the American ambassador, the European Union, which is diplomatically very wrong and incorrect, and sometimes there are statements that we are fulfilling the recommendations, we are going on this path, but where is our real line?" Zurabishvili said.
She also noted that today Ivanishvili's status is very unclear.
"Ivanishvili's status is very unclear today, after he has officially left the government. This question is also being asked outside the country, and I think there is this feeling in society as well, namely about where the main decisions are made. I don't have a direct answer or evidence for this. These young people are the performers, voice actors, if they are also the decision makers. When there is a question, it is in itself bad for the political system, because the political system in a democratic country should be transparent, the public should know where the center of responsibility is, who will be responsible tomorrow for these decisions or for this rhetoric, which is so damaging. Rhetoric is more damaging than concrete steps so far. Some non-actions are damaging and mostly rhetoric. This is what everyone tells us", said the President.
When asked whether Ivanishvili is an oligarch, the President said that he is an oligarch, although this is not his main problem.
"Yes, he is an oligarch in the sense that he has money, and influence on the media and politics, but the problem of the oligarchy is more than Ivanishvili, and the problem of Ivanishvili is more than oligarchy. There is a problem with the transparency of this political system," the president said.
