Giorgi Margvelashvili: In 1989, we had an obligation to save our homeland from the Russians, and today we have exactly the same obligation - every day when representatives of Georgian Dream are in power is a threat to our homeland

In 1989, the communist regime ruled from Russia was in the government house, and today the Putinist government ruled from Moscow is still in the government of Georgia - this means that we had an obligation to save our homeland from the Russians, and today we have exactly the same obligation, - the fourth president of Georgia, Giorgi Margvelashvili said at the rally being organized by the United National Movement near the Parliament.

As Margvelashvili mentioned in his speech, many people of different views are present at the rally, who are united by one goal, which is to return Georgia to the European family.

According to the fourth president of the country, every day when representatives of Georgian Dream are in power is a threat to our homeland.

"I want to pay tribute to the people who stood here in 1989, unarmed, united by the love of the motherland, and who were mercilessly overrun by the Russian army here. My generation and the generation older than me were stood here. Unfortunately, what unites us today with that period is that at that time the communist regime ruled from Russia was in the government house, and today the Putinist government ruled from Moscow is in the government of Georgia. Unfortunately, this is common between our present day and April 9, 1989. This is sad, but it means that we had an obligation to save our homeland from the Russians, and today we have exactly the same obligation. Despite the fact that I saw many people of different views here, we are united today by a common goal, which is to return Georgia to the historical family of free nations that we chose in the 4th century, not yesterday. In the 4th century, when we said we were a Christian nation, we said we were part of Europe, not the East. Then we defined it. We must not allow this to be reversed today. The contribution that my generation, my older generation made here in 1989, should not be scattered and lost," Margvelashvili said.
