Vladimir Putin explains why he decided to restore direct flights to Georgia

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that he personally decided to restore direct flights to Georgia.

"I always try to distribute among my colleagues everything positive that happens with us, but in this case, it was really my decision and suggestion," Vladimir Putin said at the meeting with members of Delovaya Rossiya, according to TASS.

Putin spoke about his decision and responded to the Georgian businessman, who thanked him for the restoration of direct flights and the introduction of the visa-free regime.

As Putin noted, his decisions were "connected to a number of circumstances," including the holiday season.

"I wanted to support those people who are trying to establish normal relations with Russia in Georgia, and also our business, simply, our citizens who love Georgia, want to go there, relax, enjoy Georgian nature, culture, cuisine," said Putin.

Putin claims that Moscow is ready to take a responsive step, but will do so depending on Georgia's reaction.

"We are ready to do what we need to do, we are taking steps and we will continue to do so depending on how our partners respond to this.

I never doubted that this would be good for the business," said the Russian President.

According to him, he is very satisfied to hear what the Georgian businessman said at the meeting.

In addition, as Putin said, the people of Georgia should decide themselves which way Georgia should go, how to develop.

"I thought that the leadership of Georgia repeatedly had raised the issues of lifting visas and restoring normal air traffic, and we took this step," Putin said.

At the same time, he noted: "What happens inside the country {Georgia} is not our business, the people should decide themselves which way Georgia should go, how to develop."
