Prime Minister: Georgia has signed a roadmap with Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan, we have a full understanding of how to increase the productivity of the Middle Corridor, the capacity of railways, ports and other infrastructure

Georgia has signed a roadmap with Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan, we have a complete understanding of how to increase the productivity of the Middle Corridor, the capacity of railways, ports and other infrastructure, Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Gharibashvili said in an exclusive interview with China Central Television (CCTV).

With this, the Prime Minister answered the question posed by the journalist, what is the country's national strategy regarding the positioning of Georgia so that it is considered a hub of logistics and transport.

Irakli Gharibashvili also noted that Georgia naturally has the opportunity and potential to position itself as a hub.

"First of all, it should be said that Georgia has a unique location. It has a unique geo-strategic location and connects the East with the West. This is the shortest route. In other words, for example, it takes about 15 days to transport goods from China to Europe. I say this in comparison to other means of transportation, for example sea shipping takes 45 days. Therefore, the difference is huge. The potential is great for the development of the Middle Corridor. This direction includes several countries - Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey.

Now I will tell you about our vision. Georgia signed a roadmap with Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan. We have a complete understanding of how to increase the productivity of this corridor, how to increase the capacity of railways, ports and other infrastructure.

We are implementing large infrastructure projects in Georgia, such as the East-West Expressway. Now we are going to start a big port project, a deep water port, I have Anaklia in mind. After the implementation of all 9 phases, its capacity will be around 100 million tons. Of course, we are modernizing the railway, which is being done by a Chinese company. The high-speed highway connecting East-West is also being built by Chinese companies. I must mention that they work very efficiently and their prices are competitive. We are satisfied with their work in Georgia. Georgia naturally has the opportunity and potential to position itself as a hub. I mean a transport and logistics hub or an energy hub or an aviation hub. We also want to start the construction of a new airport, we are talking about a world-class international airport. Chinese airlines can also have terminals and other facilities. I believe it is within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative. The Middle Corridor is very important. It will become a very interesting alternative route in the near future. We need to be creative, we need to act quickly and, of course, we need complete coordination, complete openness and transparency," the head of Government said.
