Salome Zurabishvili: It is the biggest tragedy when it turns out that the general prosecutor of the country was an agent of FSB or KGB - I demand that the public be answered with a detailed investigation

The President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, is demanding a "detailed investigation" regarding Otar Partskhaladze, the former chief general prosecutor of Georgia, sanctioned by the US.

As she said during her speech at the meeting with the representatives of non-governmental organizations, detailed answers should be given to the society.

"I think Mr. Kakha [Kaladze] said that my visits to Europe are the biggest tragedy. No, Mr. Kakha, the biggest tragedy is when it turns out that the general prosecutor of the country was an agent of FSB or KGB. This is the biggest tragedy, and it is an even bigger tragedy when there is no panic about it in all the agencies that should be investigating it today and the responsibility is on them. I am here, in front of you, demanding that the public be answered with a detailed investigation. This is not a request, but a demand," said the President.

In addition, regarding the issue of Partskhaladze's citizenship, the President explained that "no information and no request about the revocation of citizenship" was received in the Administration of the President.

According to Salome Zurabishvili, she is not asking for evidence from the United States on the sanctioning of Partskhaladze, because everything is clear that the investigation should be conducted in Georgia.

The President believes that everything should be done so that "those responsible" do not lose their face and reputation.

"It will not work to shift the arrows, it is clear where the responsibility lies. On the same day, before going to Basel, I met with a representative of the American Embassy to find out from their side what information was available. I think it would be good if the agencies that are responsible for all of this give us an answer in time. The answers, information and evidence are out there. No one is asking America today to provide us with more evidence, I think everything is clear. The investigation should be conducted here, the accounts should be blocked and everything should be done so that the country does not lose its face and reputation. Not the country, but those responsible in this," the President added.

For information, the USA imposed sanctions on the former prosecutor general of Georgia, Otar Partskhaladze. According to the US Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control, within the framework of the new sanctions package, sanctions were imposed on 24 more individuals, including Otar Partskhaladze. The US State Department refers to Otar Partskhaladze as a Georgian-Russian oligarch with whom Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) worked to influence Georgian society and politics in Russia's favor.
