It is possible to find someone with helicopters or drones only on the surface of the ground, and it is impossible to find those who are underground with a helicopter or drone, said the Minister of Internal Affairs Vakhtang Gomelauri during his speech in the legislative body regarding the Shovi tragedy.
The Minister called the statements that if the helicopter had arrived earlier, the people trapped in the landslide might have been saved.
"There were speculations that it was possible to speed up the rescue operations and save these people with a helicopter and thermal drones. I would like to clarify once again that on the first day, helicopters and thermal drones were working on the ground, although even a basic analysis is enough for a person to understand - with helicopters or drones, someone can be found only on the surface of the ground, and it is impossible to find someone underground with a helicopter or drone.
The public clearly saw that those people who survived the landslide were safely pulled to safety within the first hours by rescuers, police officers and citizens on the scene. For which I want to thank them once again," said Vakhtang Gomelauri.
