Opposition deputies of Tbilisi City Council demand arrest of participants and organizers in Gldani attack and release of detained oppositionists

The opposition deputies of the Tbilisi City Council are demanding the arrest of the participants and organizers in the attack that happened in Gldani yesterday, as well as the release of the detained oppositionists.

A joint briefing was held in the Tbilisi City Council today.

According to Irakli Nadiradze, chairman of the United National Movement faction of the Tbilisi City Council, the reason for the attack on the deputy was an incident that started yesterday due to expression of a critical opinion in the City Council.

"Yesterday, we all became witnesses of the worst crime together. We saw a criminal attack with the participation of the Georgian Dream "Titushki", the police and the State Security Service, mercilessly beating a deputy of the City Council. The society once again saw that Russian oligarch Ivanishvili created an oligarchic, autocratic regime, where, just because a person goes to the Council and demands that Russian agent Partskhaladze be punished, gets physically assaulted in front of children, women, and parents. Without the approval of Kakhi Kaladze, without the approval of the State Security Service, without the approval of the police, these cowards, non-humans would not have dared to do this. There are many precedents when opposition MPs were attacked and no one was held accountable. This was a continuation of the incident that started in the City Council, due to expression of a critical opinion. So we have questions with Georgian Dream, we also have questions with the police, the State Security Service, Kakhi Kaladze. We demand that not only the participants in the group attack be punished, but also the instigators and organizers, who should be found in Georgian Dream, State Security Service and the police, be punished. We request the immediate release of the people arrested yesterday - Zviad Kuprava, Nika Melia, Bacho Dolidze. These people were arrested only because they had questions about where the police were when people were gathering and the attack was being organized," said Irakli Nadiradze.
