The member of the parliamentary majority, Mikheil Sarjveladze, calls the decision not to terminate the citizenship of Otar Partskhaladze strange and inexplicable and says that the President should explain why she changed her mind.
As Sarjveladze told journalists, the opposition had initially calculated that the Ministry of Justice would make a different decision on the termination of citizenship for Partskhaladze, but later, "both the President and the opposition found themselves in an awkward position and had to change their position".
"It is a strange decision. A few days ago, the President made a statement and called on the Ministry of Justice to submit a report on the termination of citizenship, and said that she would immediately terminate his citizenship. Later, when the Ministry of Justice did so, the President made an inexplicable decision and changed her position. It seems strange and the public have questions. This is not compatible with the legislation, but more interesting is the reason for the change in position. I think that initially the opposition chose a tactic to accuse the government. They expected that the government would not make such a decision as it did. Then, when the information provided to the public turned out to be a lie, both the President and the opposition found themselves in an embarrassing situation and had to change their position. This change of position should probably be explained by the fact that they are still trying to prepare new, fabricated reasons for another accusation. There is no other explanation, reason or justification for this," said Sarjveladze.
For information, the President of Georgia does not consider it expedient to terminate the citizenship of Otar Partskhaladze, the former Prosecutor General of Georgia, sanctioned by the USA.
According to the statement released by the Administration of the President of Georgia, Otar Partskhaladze has been exposed for espionage and an investigation has been initiated against him, therefore, the President believes that if Otar Partskhaladze is to be punished, he should be punished as a citizen of Georgia.
