In fact, we could not hear any argument at all - we will give a detailed legal answer after the break - Georgian Dream Chairman Irakli Kobakhidze told journalists during the break at the hearing of the President's impeachment submission in the Constitutional Court of Georgia.
To the question whether the presence of the President at the session is important, Kobakhidze answered: "It was important in terms of respect for the Constitutional Court, otherwise I have no other interest."
Regarding assessments that the initiation of the impeachment procedure and the filing of a lawsuit in the Constitutional Court are political, Kobakhidze says that impeachment is a political-legal process.
"Impeachment is a political-legal procedure. The part that takes place in the Constitutional Court is legal, and the part that takes place in the Parliament is political. Therefore, there is no room for speculations," said Kobakhidze.
"We could also send a representative, but 4 MPs came here because we showed special respect to the court. The President could have done the same, but she didn't. This is her choice", said Kobakhidze.
When asked whether the issue of impeachment affects the candidate status of the European Union, Kobakhidze notes that "where there is no respect for the Constitution, there can be no Europe".
"Europe and Europeanness means respecting the Constitution. Where there is no respect for the Constitution, there can be no Europe. This is our attitude", said Kobakhidze.
