Your visit, Mister Prime Minister, reaffirms the close partnership and friendship between Georgia and Hungary, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili stated at the Joint Intergovernmental Georgia-Hungary Commission’s meeting held under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister in Telavi, within the scope of the official visit by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.

As the Head of Government noted, the Hungarian governmental team’s visit led by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán marks a historic day in Georgia-Hungary relations.

“Mister Prime Minister, Ministers, Dear Delegation Members, it is a great honor and joy to be hosting you today in Georgia. Your visit, Mister Prime Minister, reaffirms the close partnership and friendship between Georgia and Hungary. Today’s format and the Hungarian governmental team’s visit led by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán mark a historic day in Georgia-Hungary relations. This type of cooperation, friendship between our nations is very important for the prosperity of our countries and people. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Mister Prime Minister, also to his team, our team, the Georgian delegation, for preparing and organizing this very important bilateral format. I am convinced that today’s meetings will yield results, and the top-level political relations between our countries will translate into concrete success,” the Prime Minister stated.

As Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán noted at the Intergovernmental Commission’s meeting, cementing the friendship between Georgia and Hungary and the Christian past are the very foundation on which future relations must build.

“Dear Prime Minister, Mister Garibashvili, dear Georgian friends, above all else, allow me to tell you why I am here in Georgia. We wanted to express the Hungarian people’s respect for Georgia and the Georgian people. You are indeed far away from Hungary, and this geographic distance is great, but we in nowise feel in a foreign land. We truly believe that we are at home. And this is because the Prime Minister and his cabinet have offered us superb hospitality. Also because we feel at home; we share fate with this nation with a difficult past, who have their own language, but both have a very optimistic future. We feel just like you do, so we are happy to be in Georgia, and cementing our friendship with you and this Christian past make up the foundation on which we want to build the future. Today, there are not many countries like this left. This is why we are like-minded Christian nations, and we have much to do at the same time. Ultimately, Mister Prime Minister, we are here because our geopolitical creed is that Europe must connect to the Caucasus, which is a historical task. The European family needs the Caucasus, and the Caucasian nations need Europe. To be honest, the EU has no future unless it is connected to the Caucasus in terms of energy, economy, infrastructure. Because of history and shared values, and this geopolitical strategy, we fully support your aspirations to become a member of the EU, and we demand fair, merit-based conduct toward the Georgian Government, for you and your country. You can always count on us!” Viktor Orbán said.
