Irakli Kobakhidze: Yesterday, the opposition had a confession day - the entities that opposition MP Khatuna Samnidze was referring to in her statement, who are lobbying against the candidate status in European structures are the National Movement, Lelo and Nika Gvaramia

According to Georgian Dream Chairman Irakli Kobakhidze, the entities that opposition MP Khatuna Samnidze was referring to in her statement, who are lobbying against the candidate status in European structures are the National Movement, Lelo and Nika Gvaramia.

As he told reporters, what the ruling party had long claimed that the opposition is lobbying against the candidate status, was confirmed by the opposition representative herself.

"Generally, yesterday, the representatives of the opposition had a confession day. This is one of the confessions. We have been talking for months that the opposition is lobbying against the candidate status. As for Samnidze's statement, I have information that she was referring to specific subjects, namely the National Movement, Lelo and Gvaramia. She had information on these three subjects, although she did not specify the details. We know for sure that these entities went to Europe, and not only Europe, to lobby against the candidate status. What we have been asserting for so long, it was practically confirmed by the representative of the opposition, Samnidze. As for the status, we are optimistic about the it, a positive decision is clearly on tis way, and we think that Olivér Várhelyi’sstatement was also an expression of this. We think that in December a fair decision will be made in favor of our country and our country will be granted the candidate status. Of course, the radical opposition will continue to lobby against it, but I hope that this year, unlike last year, such actions will not prevent a fair decision, and I think that a fair decision will be made this year," said Irakli Kobakhidze.

For information, the Chairwoman of the Republican Party, Khatuna Samnidze, said on PalitraNews TV yesterday that there are people in the ranks of the opposition who talk behind closed doors with European partners about the fact that Georgia's EU membership candidate status should be postponed and it should be granted to the country after the 2024 elections. As Samnidze noted, she called on her opposition colleagues to stop spreading damaging messages about Georgia's candidate status.
