Nikoloz Samkharadze: We can clearly see the tails of the opposition - 11 recommendations have either been fully or largely implemented, there is no progress on one recommendation

We can clearly see the tails of the opposition - they have recently changed their rhetoric, but only at the level of rhetoric, and in fact they are not happy that a positive decision might be made in relation to Georgia - I do not expect that there will be a condition regarding the imposition of sanctions on Russia because the EU has never requested it, Nikoloz Samkharadze, Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, told journalists.

According to him, 11 recommendations have either been fully or largely implemented, and there is no progress on one recommendation, depolarization.

"3 fully implemented recommendations were stated based on May information. Today is already November, a lot has been done. From my point of view, I can tell you that 11 recommendations are either fully or largely implemented. We have no progress on one recommendation - it is depolarization", said Nikoloz Samkharadze.

As Samkharadze notes, "the government has positive expectations regarding the candidate status".

"We expect that the progress made by the country during the last year and a half will be fully reflected in the conclusion of the European Commission. As for the conditions, the relations with the European Union and the accession process in general are all related to the conditions, although I do not expect that there will be a condition regarding the imposition of sanctions because the European Union has never asked us to impose sanctions. They understand well the situation that Georgia is in, they also well understand the economic ties that Georgia has with Russia (I mean trade), and they also know what type of products go from Georgia to Russia - these are mainly agricultural products, which the European Union itself has not sanctioned in trade with Russia.

We can clearly see the tails of the opposition - they have recently changed their rhetoric, but only at the level of rhetoric, and in fact they are not happy that a positive decision might be made in relation to Georgia. Now they are trying to bring forward some topics that will not be useful for our country. However, I think they are harming themselves by doing so", said Nikoloz Samkharadze.

As for the visit of the oppositionists to Brussels, including Salome Samadashvili, the political secretary of Lelo, Samkharadze says that it is easy to understand what this visit may serve.

"I think it is easy for the public to understand the purpose of the visit of the opposition leaders, especially the visits of the opposition leaders, who during these months had been opposing the implementation of the recommendations," said Samkharadze.
