The EU-Hungary negotiations are the business of the EU and Hungary, of course, we cannot interfere in it. In the end, I am sure that there will be positive decisions made regarding European integration, this is how the chairman of Georgian Dream Irakli Kobakhidze assessed the discussion about whether the attitude of the head of the Hungarian government Viktor Orban towards the issue of EU expansion will affect the European integration process of Georgia.
According to Kobakhidze, the most important thing for the ruling force is that there be a positive decision in favor of Georgia.
"The negotiations between the EU and Hungary are the business of the EU and Hungary, of course we cannot interfere in it. In the end, I am sure that there will be positive decisions made regarding European integration, including in favor of Ukraine and Moldova, and the most important thing for us is that a positive decision is made in favor of Georgia," said Kobakhidze.
In the context of relations with Hungary, Irakli Kobakhidze noted that Budapest is an outstanding supporter of Georgia and its European integration process.
"We know that Hungary is one of the most active supporters of Georgia on the path to European integration, however, of course, it is very important to have continuous cooperation with our Hungarian partners to strengthen this support even more. We are sure that in one week, when the issue of granting the candidate status to Georgia is discussed, Hungary will have a very strong support for our country.
Cooperation, partnership, friendship with our Hungarian colleagues is especially important. We are united by common values and, of course, when cooperation is based on values, then the perspective is particularly strong.
We are starting a working visit to Hungary today, we will meet with the Vice Prime Minister, we will also meet with officials in the Parliament, we will have a meeting with the leadership of the Ministry of European Affairs and we will have meetings with the leaders of the partner party. The goal is, of course, to deepen bilateral cooperation between the countries. It is very important to carry out this visit one week before the decision on the candidate status, in order to discuss together all the issues related to the integration of Georgia into the European structures," said Kobakhidze.
