Irakli Kobakhidze: We promise that within the next one year we will have qualitative, tangible results in terms of further reducing corruption

According to all international rankings, we have good data in terms of the lack of corruption - we are ahead of all candidate countries for EU membership and up to 10 EU member countries, - Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze told journalists.

To the journalist's question whether the corruption revealed in the healthcare system was the reason for the resignation of Zurab Azarashvili, the Prime Minister answered that the resignation of the former Minister of Health had nothing to do with corruption.

According to Irakli Kobakhidze, the fight against corruption is one of the most important tasks of the government, and the country has good data in this regard.

"According to all international rankings, we have good data regarding the lack of corruption. We are ahead of all candidate countries for EU membership and up to 10 EU member countries. However, the fact that around 20 EU member states are ahead of us shows that there is much more to be done to fight and reduce corruption in our country. We have a very ambitious goal to be among the top three in Europe in terms of the fight against corruption and the lack of corruption. Consequently, there is much to be done. During this month, many steps have already been taken to take care of prevention, but there will be a lot more to do in the future. We promise that within the next one year we will have qualitative, tangible results in terms of further reducing corruption. Our goal is, of course, to completely eliminate corruption, which is a very difficult task. There is corruption in all countries, including even the Scandinavian countries, which are characterized by the lowest level of corruption, however, we have political will, and under the conditions of this political will, it is possible for us to achieve this ambitious goal, which is called taking a place in the top three of Europe," said Irakli Kobakhidze.
