Archil Talakvadze: The attitude of Salome Zurabishvili contradicts the country's foreign policy course, this is an argumentation, for which the government does not agree to her visit to Lithuania

The attitude, statements and evaluations of Salome Zurabishvili contradict the country's foreign policy course, which she has repeatedly expressed during her international visits. Accordingly, this is an argumentation, for which the government does not agree to this visit, - this is how the vice-speaker of the parliament Archil Talakvadze responded to the refusal of the visit of President Salome Zurabishvili to Lithuania by the government of Georgia.

According to Talakvadze, the Prime Minister acted in this case within the framework of the Constitution and the law, in full compliance with the rules.

According to him, there is nothing sensational or controversial in this.

"In this case, the Prime Minister acted within the framework of the Constitution and the law, in full compliance with the rules. The legislation gives him the right to make a decision on consent. Therefore, there is nothing sensational in this and there is nothing controversial.

As for the political part, after Salome Zurabishvili asked questions on numerous broadcasts and international platforms, whether Georgia deserved the status of a candidate, she also questioned the democratic reforms that Georgia carried out in the process of European integration, which were praised by high political officials of the European Union in Brussels, as well as by the NATO Secretary General at the meeting with Irakli Kobakhidze, they directly said that Georgia is going in the right direction. What is surprising is that the attitude, statements and evaluations of Salome Zurabishvili, which she has repeatedly expressed during her international visits, are in contradiction with the country's foreign policy course. Accordingly, this is an argumentation, for which the government does not approve of this visit", Talakvadze said.

For information, the Government of Georgia refused President Salome Zurabishvili's visit to Lithuania. The President applied to the Government on March 27, 2024, regarding her working visit to Vilnius, Republic of Lithuania.
