Irakli Gharibashvili: I want to appeal to young people, don't you remember what was the situation in the country before 2012? - Only the elite could travel to Europe

Anyone who opposes transparency has nothing to do with democracy or the democratic development of our country - well-known aggressive organizations were behind many of the actions, - Irakli Gharibashvili, the chairman of the Georgian Dream party, said after the meeting with the leaders of the local organizations of Shida Kartli and party activists.

According to him, he has often expressed dissatisfaction with his European colleagues regarding the financing of non-governmental organizations.

"Whoever opposes transparency has nothing to do with democracy or the democratic development of our country. I want to ask a question, is it acceptable when these famous big NGOs receive funding from abroad? When I was the Prime Minister, I openly talked about this with our partners and friends. I openly expressed my displeasure. I have repeatedly told them directly, I don't like it, we don't like it, that your state organizations and foundations are funding NGOs with this radical agenda. They did a bad job and are doing it. My position was and is the following, of course, it is unacceptable for us when this money goes to the organization of destructive, anarchist and extremist actions, when this money goes to the spread of an ideology directed against the state. Behind too many rallies were those aggressive organizations, the same Shame and others who received funding from abroad and used this money against the government, authorities and people, in order to bring anxiety, disorder and chaos; This is unacceptable. If this money is used for good deeds, and there are examples of this, and there are several organizations that protect the rights of disabled people, I am not talking about them. But, disguised organizations that are representatives and satellites of de facto political parties, of course their activities are not transparent. They discredit other NGOs, that's a problem, and they hurt our friends and partners. Today there is a democracy in the country, every citizen has the constitutionally guaranteed right to express their opinion, protest and the government protects the right of these people and will protect it in the future. If anyone, any ruling party, has brought really tangible progress and results on the path of European integration, who is that force? - This is Georgian Dream. I want to appeal to young people, don't you remember what was the situation in the country before 2012? Only the elite traveled to Europe. Dialogue with our European colleagues is necessary. It should be a live process so that wrong perceptions and feelings do not remain", Irakli Gharibashvili noted.
