General public review of constitutional amendments against LGBT propaganda underway in Kutaisi

A general public review of constitutional amendments against LGBT propaganda is underway in Kutaisi.

The draft constitutional law will be submitted by the parliamentary majority.

"The basis for initiating this change is the trends we have all been observing recently. Trends that are happening in the world. Our experience shows us that the trends that are outside, after a certain period of time, can be transferred here. That's why we have to establish our family values", said Chairman of the Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili.

In the following days, the public review commission will hold discussions in Ambrolauri, Ozurgeti, Batumi, Zugdidi and Mestia.

The Chairman of the Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, will head the public review commission. Its members include: Mamuka Mdinaradze, Rati Ionatamishvili, Irakli Shatakishvili, Maka Botchorishvili, Anri Okhanashvili, Davit Matikashvili, Salome Kurasbediani, Tengiz Sharmanashvili, Sozar Subari, Pridon Injia and Shalva Kereselidze. Nino Shavgulidze, deputy head of the Cabinet of the Speaker of the Parliament, is another member of the commission.

The constitutional initiative prepared "against LGBT propaganda" is signed by 83 deputies of the majority. According to the planned change, Article 30 of the Constitution will be corrected, which concerns the rights of marriage, mothers and children. A new paragraph will be added to the mentioned article with the following content: - "The protection of family values and minors is ensured by the constitutional law of Georgia, which is an integral part of the Constitution of Georgia."

As for the draft constitutional law "On Family Values and Protection of Minors", it consists of eight clauses and provides for the establishment of a number of restrictions and prohibitions.
