The Nordic Festival will be held in Georgia for the first time. The festival, which is taking place in Fabrika on June 8-9, will discuss the Nordic approach to urbanism, innovation, active citizenship, technology, literature and much more. The Ambassadors of the Nordic countries discussed the main topics of the festival with Interpressnews.
“The festival is a result of the increased Nordic presence in Georgia. Sweden has been here since 2010; in 2019, Norway opened an embassy; and Denmark opened an embassy in 2022. And this year, the Danish Culture Institute also opened an office. So the time was right to create these Nordic days, which we have done in many other countries as well. The topics of the festival are democracy, sustainability, and innovation”- says Ambassador of Denmark to Georgia, Anne Toft Sørensen.
The ambassador notes that the cooperation between the Nordic countries is built on the common values.
It's also one of the oldest forms of regional cooperation, and we are very proud of that. There is also a clear vision for our Nordic cooperation: to become the most sustainable and integrated region in the world. We are world leaders in the technologies, mobility, digitization, public-private partnership and investing in research. It is obvious to us to share this experience with Georgia.”- says Ambassador Sørensen with Interpressnews.
The Ambassador of Kingdom of Sweden to Georgia, Anna Lyberg continues that the Nordic countries actively promote green, competitive and social sustainability.
“We are actively promoting green, competitive and social sustainability. And what we also see is that we are facing a number of challenges, both in the region and globally, and we can tackle them better together than alone. This is also a part of our work here.”- notes the Swedish ambassador.
“We really have the full Nordic package; we have everything from youth to democratic panel discussions. We have civic participation games, and we have a Swedish fashion exhibition. Furthermore, we will have clothes swapping, which is quite popular in Scandinavia and the Nordic countries and is also about sustainability. Also, we have an amazing Danish-Georgian jazz musician group that is coming and entertaining us. We will also have an urbanism and architectural planning talk, where we have some very good speakers from all the Nordic countries, who will speak about the approach of urbanism from our side, which is very much shaping, cities for the people, which we think that an amazing place like Tbilisi could also learn from.”- says ambassador Toft Sørensen.
The ambassadors underlines that the Nordic countries stand for defending democracy, human rights, and equality. The answer from the Nordic countries is more cooperation and also defending the right of all people to live in peace and freedom.
In the end ambassadors welcome all interested person in order to get to know the Nordic approach to urbanism, innovation, active citizenship, tech, literature and much more.
“A warm welcome to our Georgian friends to celebrate with us and participate in the events that we are planning for. We're looking forward to engaging together. It’s quite historic, and it really shows that the Nordic footprint in the Southern Caucasus has become much stronger throughout the last couple of years. We are here to support you. It also underscores our steadfast dedication to Georgian people and their European future.”- says Swedish ambassador to Georgia Anna Lyberg.
