This year alone, more highways will be opened than were fully operational in our country before 2012, - said Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze during his speech at the opening of the first 35 km section of the 4-lane Kakheti highway.

According to the Prime Minister, currently, 341 km of highways are used by road transport on the territory of Georgia, including 282 kilometers of the East-West international highway.

"The results of our efforts are visible, which is confirmed by simple figures - currently, road transport in the territory of Georgia already uses 341 km of highways. Among them, 282 km of the East-West international highway have been built. The construction of the project of the century - Ricoti expressway is in the final phase. The cutting of the main and evacuation 9 km long road tunnels connecting Kusheti-Kobi has been completed. Work continues to complete the construction of both the tunnels and the 23 km highway. Works continue for the development of the Kakheti highway.

For comparison, we remind you that in 2012, only 68 km of highway was built; To date, 4 times more - 341 km of highways have been opened. Only this year, in total, up to 90 km of highways will be opened, of which 60 km are already used by transport. This means that only this year more highways will be opened than were fully functional in our country before 2012," said the Prime Minister.

According to the head of the government, these achievements demonstrate that the government is doing everything to fully develop the international transport potential of Georgia, to improve connectivity and to establish the country as a regional logistics center.

"These achievements demonstrate that we are doing everything to fully develop Georgia's international transport potential, improve connectivity, establish the country as a regional logistics center, stimulate tourism and business opportunities, and economically empower the population.

These results are the result of the work of many people. I would like to thank all the people who were involved in the implementation of this project. First of all, I would like to thank the Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure, Mr. Irakli Karseladze, who led the implementation of this project, as well as all employees of the Ministry, each leader, the leadership of the Road Department, each employee. I would like to thank our partners. To our Chinese and Turkish friends who were involved in the implementation of this project. I would like to thank everyone who contributed to the successful implementation of this project.
