Irakli Gharibashvili: reject war, foreign interference, and “Unbridled LGBT Propaganda” on October 26

Georgian Dream Chairman, Irakli Gharibashvili, called on the people of Georgia to reject war, foreign interference in Georgian politics, and what he described as the legalization of "unbridled LGBT propaganda" in schools and kindergartens. He made these remarks during a regional campaign event in Kutaisi, ahead of the upcoming October 26 elections.

Gharibashvili's speech was focused on the need to "defend" Georgia against both internal and external threats. He framed the upcoming election as a critical moment for the future of Georgia, declaring that the truth, peace, and goodness would triumph on October 26.

Addressing the crowd, Gharibashvili recalled life before October 1, 2012, during the rule of former President Mikheil Saakashvili, describing it as a time of fear, terror, and oppression. He emphasized the importance of the 2012 election, which saw the victory of Georgian Dream over what he called Saakashvili's "bloody regime."

"We all remember well... fear, terror, oppression, and injustice reigned during Saakashvili’s regime. People were deprived of their God-given freedom... Innocent people were unjustly arrested and tortured in hellish prisons," Gharibashvili said. He further criticized Saakashvili’s government for the 2008 war with Russia, which resulted in the occupation of Georgian territories and significant losses for the country.

Gharibashvili praised Georgian Dream's 12-year governance as a period of peace, stability, and progress. He cited economic growth, reductions in poverty and unemployment, and Georgia’s candidate status for EU membership as key achievements of the party.

"The historic victory of October 1, 2012, brought 12 years of continuous peace, stability, and prosperity to our country... We saved the country from war and kept peace," he stated, crediting former Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili as the central figure responsible for these accomplishments.

Gharibashvili warned that the upcoming election would put the Georgian Dream against external forces and political factions eager to drag Georgia into chaos and war. He specifically named Saakashvili, Mamuka Khazaradze, and Giorgi Gakharia as individuals working to bring the National Movement back to power, whom he described as agents of destruction.

"Today, the battle continues... On October 26, we must reject the stateless agency directed by external forces, who want to engulf the country in flames for their personal interests. They want to impose sanctions, send young people to war, and destroy Georgia," he warned.

In addition to political threats, Gharibashvili criticized the influence of foreign politicians in Georgia’s internal affairs, accusing them of interfering in Georgian politics and trying to impose their values on the country. He specifically targeted attempts to legalize what he described as “unbridled LGBT propaganda” in schools and kindergartens, which he framed as part of a broader foreign agenda.

"We must say no to the gross interference of foreign politicians in Georgian politics... We must reject the attempt to legalize unbridled 'LGBT' propaganda," Gharibashvili declared.

In his final remarks, Gharibashvili urged voters to reject all parties connected to Saakashvili and his regime, warning that any vote for those parties would mean a return to war, chaos, and the destruction of Georgia’s economy.

"On October 26, truth will win, goodness will win, peace will win, and Georgia will win!" he concluded, rallying the crowd for the upcoming elections.
