Giorgi Margvelashvili: Georgia's relationship with Trump depends entirely on how we behave - he appreciates real efforts

Georgia's relationship with Trump depends entirely on how we behave and how ready we are to work and fight for our values, - the fourth president of Georgia, Giorgi Margvelashvili, said in the "360 degrees" program of "PalitraNews". With this, Giorgi Margvelashvili responded to the presidential elections held in the USA and Donald Trump's victory.

According to Margvelashvili, Donald Trump is a realistic politician and appreciates real efforts.

"I have experience dealing with the Trump and Obama administrations, I have experience dealing with Biden, and I want to tell you that Donald Trump is a very realistic politician based on his biography, based on his actions in politics. Of course, the attitude towards Georgia is bipartisan and this bipartisan line will be maintained, but if we talk about President Trump personally, who, I don't know how actively he will deal with the issue of Georgia, but in today's context these are important issues, based on the Russian environment. Georgia's relationship with Trump depends entirely on how we behave and how ready we are to work and fight for our values. He is a highly realistic politician who looks at real processes and not "fake processes". We will be at the height of the call and will be on his agenda.

Whether it will be dramatic or not, I can tell you about it, not because the support of Georgia, regardless of whether there is a Republican or a Democrat in the Oval Office, is unambiguous - it is the support of the democracy of Georgia, because of the great credit invested in Georgia, given to Georgia, and given by Georgia to America. , which has been most significantly accomplished by our women and men in uniform, the people who have fought in Afghanistan, in Iraq, who have stood with Americans, their service and their work and, unfortunately, their blood is also undefined in these relationships because it really matters to Americans. It really matters who stood with them on the battlefield.

From this point of view, a radical change of policy is excluded - they support the Georgian people, Georgian democracy. There is neither oil nor diamonds in Georgia. They support the Georgian people who want real democracy. This will not change, but if we talk about the type of presidents and what is valuable to them, based on my experience, I can tell you that Trump appreciates real efforts and real topics," Margvelashvili said.

The fourth president also spoke about the expected policy of the Trump administration towards Georgia, in light of the fact that the country has signed economic cooperation with the Chinese government.

According to him, the economic cooperation between Georgia and China is not a problem for America, however, the problem may be that China has strategically strengthened its capabilities in Georgia through the port of Anaklia.

"Our cooperation with the Chinese government was not signed until now. I will remind you of Prime Minister Kvirikashvili's very successful cooperation with China, when tax-free economic cooperation was signed with this country, and then America had no complaints in this regard. One is to trade with China and establish economic, profitable cooperation, and our American partners have no complaints about that, but when it comes to China strategically strengthening its capabilities in Georgia, there may be some question marks in this regard. Much more problematic is the rapprochement that is taking place with Russia and Iran.

With Trump's presidency, Georgia acquired neither an ally nor an adversary, but acquired the opportunity to become an important player in President Trump's agenda, otherwise nothing has changed globally," Margvelashvili said.
