Roman Gotsiridze: "Georgian Dream" actually refused to join the European Union, this is a betrayal of the country - without the help of the EI, the country faces a catastrophic situation

This is a betrayal of the country, - this is how the opposition politician, Roman Gotsiridze, evaluates the statement of the Prime Minister, Irakli Kobakhidze, that the issue of opening negotiations with the European Union will not be on the agenda until the end of 2028.

As Roman Gotsiridze stated in "PalitraNews" program "Resume", the Prime Minister's decision is a violation of the constitution and he will be "punished" together with the honorary chairman of "Georgian Dream", Bidzina Ivanishvili.

"This is the government's official endorsement of the treasonous statement made by Ivanishvili during the election program. This is treason. In fact, they refused to join the European Union. According to the constitution, the government of Georgia, and first of all the government, has the obligation to join the European Union. The Constitution unequivocally states that the government should make every effort to join NATO and the European Union. If the opposite steps are taken, it is a violation of the constitution. This is a direct violation of the constitution, for which this government, together with the boldness of Irakli Kobakhidze and Bidzina Ivanishvili, will be punished. The issue of direct criminal responsibility will be raised against these people", said Roman Gotsiridze.

According to Roman Gotsiridze, Georgia is facing a catastrophic situation without Western aid.

"Georgia's economy, especially its finances, especially the GEL, whose stability was based on the reserves received from the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank and the Western countries, as well as the investments were mainly of a Western nature, the infrastructure projects that were ever built in Georgia were also done with Western aid and cheap loans. Since Georgia's independence, not even an hour has passed without international assistance. Without this help and with these economic resources, the country faces a catastrophic situation. If a small crisis were to arise, who would give the government at least 1 dollar to maintain the exchange rate or the GEL? Will Orban give it, will Putin give it, or China?" Roman Gotsiridze said.

The Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, made a statement on the issue of negotiations with the European Union after the meeting of the parliamentary majority and the government team. In particular, according to the ruling team's decision, Georgia will not put the issue of opening negotiations with the European Union on the agenda until the end of 2028. According to the Prime Minister, Georgia also refuses any budget grant from the European Union until the end of 2028.
