Retreating would be a betrayal of the people who are on the streets. I am not the one who calls on people to take to the streets, I am the one who represents them, - Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili stated in the Italian Senate, when she answered a senator’s question whether she intends to leave the post of president.
According to her, the president does not have executive power in Georgia.
“I am a certain connection, a symbol, and these people need this symbol on the streets. This is also a form of stability. Also, our partners need to know who they can talk to, because there are many political parties, there are many new forms and forces that are emerging from the street protests. So, there should be one phone number to talk to this very broad spectrum of Georgian society and they should support this society and they should support it through me,” the President noted.
