"Ukraine supports the Georgian people – no country, especially Russia, has the right to veto a nation's geopolitical choice," Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said in an interview with Ukrainian media.

When asked about the President of Georgia and whether Ukraine has any contact with Mikheil Kavelashvili, Sybiha responded:

"Ukraine stands with the Georgian people. We condemn the decision to halt European integration, denounce the numerous irregularities during parliamentary elections, and criticize the disproportionate repressive actions by the Georgian authorities against their citizens. We have carefully studied the OSCE report, which clearly outlines numerous violations. The report's primary recommendation is to hold new elections to address the root causes of these issues," the Foreign Minister stated.

He emphasized that "no country, especially Russia, has the right to veto a nation's geopolitical choice or its participation in international organizations and alliances."

"I stress that no country, particularly Russia, can veto a nation’s geopolitical decisions or its involvement in international unions and alliances. That’s why our reaction to the actions of the Georgian authorities was firm. We imposed sanctions on individuals suspected of violating the rights of Georgian citizens. As for your question, Ukraine recognizes states," Sybiha said.

He further noted that Ukraine's stance on the issue aligns with the European Union's approach.

"Democratic values, human rights, and standards are not just empty words for us as a state that has undergone its own Maidan. Therefore, I don't believe in any successful governance models built against the will of the people. We are also convinced that the Georgian people's choice is for Euro-Atlantic aspirations. I can add that our approach will be based on the EU’s position. As a state striving for full EU membership, we are obligated to adhere to the EU's political evaluations and statements," Sybiha concluded.
