There is no unit called the Georgian National Legion in the structure of the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine, Ukrainian media reports, citing a statement by the Main Intelligence Directorate of the country’s Defense Ministry.
“The Main Intelligence Directorate of the Defense Ministry of Ukraine officially reports that there is no unit called the Georgian National Legion in its structure,” reads the statement.
The Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine responded to the statement of the Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico.
Robert Fico accused the fighters of the Georgian Legion of participating in the anti-government protests in Slovakia. The Slovak Ministry of Internal Affairs has banned the commander of the Georgian Legion, Mamuka Mamulashvili, from entering Slovakia.
“According to the information we have, I can confirm that the Georgian National Legion is behind the organization of the rallies in Slovakia, believe it or not. This is a military organization that is part of the Ukrainian army,” said Fico.
The statement of the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine states that the commander of the Georgian Legion, Mamuka Mamulashvili, has no connection with Ukrainian intelligence.
“The said person terminated the contract with the International Legion of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine in April 2023 and did not extend it,” reads the statement of the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine.
