Davit Berdzenishvili: In 2012, Kobakhidze did not say a word, neither did Mdinaradze, nor was any ordinary member of 'Georgian Dream' involved. They did not fight against the 'United National Movement.' The time has passed for holding past governments accountable

"This is one-sided propaganda that does not influence only the protest electorate but also does not affect those who are at least tolerant towards them," said Davit Berdzenishvili, founder of the "Republican Party," on Palitra News' program "Free Studio," responding to Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze’s recent statement about the protests.

According to him, the government will have to back down.

"This is one-sided propaganda that does not influence only the protest electorate but also does not affect those who are at least tolerant towards them.

The protest is very strong, very creative, and very diverse. There are significant sacrifices; so many people are facing criminal prosecution. We all fear for the fate of Mzia Amaglobeli, and these days, the situation is approaching a critical point. And in such circumstances, the government tells us that they will not back down. But they will retreat if there is pressure from the West.

With the new legislative initiatives of 'Georgian Dream,' there will, of course, be pressure on the media, and repression against political parties will continue and escalate. They will move toward bans—look, they have already created an investigative commission. I want to point out that 800,000 people have entrusted their votes to the barrier-crossing parties, yet the opposition cannot function in this parliament. I do not expect any opposition members to remain there, including the twelve who still hold their status. We will be forced into complete confrontation and an escalation of this conflict because the government leaves us no other choice.

Europe and America will ultimately defeat Russia and anti-democracy. The key issue is how we, as a country, will endure this fight and what our losses will be. Bidzina Ivanishvili is an enemy of the country," Berdzenishvili stated.

The opposition politician also commented on 'Georgian Dream’s' promise to ban the 'United National Movement' (UNM) through constitutional amendments.

According to Berdzenishvili, none of the current leaders of 'Georgian Dream' fought against the previous government, nor were they even members of the coalition in 2012.

"Which one of them was fighting against the 'United National Movement'? I know exactly who was in the opposition at that time. Bidzina Ivanishvili was the main financier of the 'United National Movement,' and Irakli Kobakhidze did not say a word back then. Do you remember any of them? Mdinaradze, or anyone else? In 2012, not a single one of them was even an ordinary member of 'Georgian Dream.' They did not fight against the 'United National Movement.' It is clear that these people are Ivanishvili’s lackeys—he will use them, then discard some, and keep others in reserve.

The 'United National Movement' is just one part of the Georgian opposition, currently much more restrained and modest than it was 8-10 years ago. It is now one of four opposition political entities of similar weight. In such a situation, declaring that 'everyone who is not with me is UNM' does not even work for their own supporters anymore. How is the entire opposition labeled as UNM when only 10% of the opposition’s total votes belong to them?

The time for holding past governments accountable has passed. I was its opponent, while Bidzina Ivanishvili was its financier. On November 7, they were poisoning us with toxic gas purchased by Ivanishvili. After November 7, Kakha Kaladze was a trusted representative of Saakashvili’s presidential campaign, actively working for him," Berdzenishvili stated.

Michał Kobosko - we hope that your government eventually would either choose the European way, the democratic way or would resign seeing the number, the size and scale of the citizens' protests
