GYLA: The quadrupling of the term of administrative detention and the increase in fines clearly show that the purpose of the amendments is to punish and intimidate citizens

Georgian Dream is trying to suppress the protest through repressive laws and courts. The quadrupling of the term of administrative detention and the increase in fines clearly show that the purpose of the changes is to punish and intimidate citizens, - the Young Lawyers’ Association says in a statement.

GYLA notes in its statement that “hundreds of people have already been fined and subjected to administrative detention, while dozens of people are in custody and awaiting trial under criminal law.”

“All this has become a weapon of political struggle – critical voices are punishable, and the courts have become an instrument for punishing protesters,” reads the statement.

Michał Kobosko - we hope that your government eventually would either choose the European way, the democratic way or would resign seeing the number, the size and scale of the citizens' protests
