Teona Akubardia: For the system, power is the main priority, not ordinary people. It is clear why we live from one tragedy to the next and why volunteers have to take part in every rescue operation before the state does

"The main purpose of this system is Bidzina Ivanishvili’s money and power, not the ordinary people who are pleading for help during heavy snowfall," said Teona Akubardia, a member of the For Georgia party, on Palitra News’ program Political Space.

Akubardia spoke about the current developments in the country and stated that today, the possibility of history repeating itself is more evident than ever.

According to her, Georgian Dream no longer speaks of Russia as an occupier and is trying to erase its traces as an aggressor, both from the Soviet occupation and the August War.

"The main purpose of this system is Bidzina Ivanishvili’s money and power, not the ordinary people who are pleading for help during heavy snowfall. When the entire system exists to protect Ivanishvili’s wealth—to fine protesters, to crack down on demonstrations, rather than to protect citizens, which is its primary constitutional duty—it becomes absolutely clear why we live from one tragedy to another and why volunteers are forced to engage in every rescue operation before the state even reacts.

I just came from a rally that united various locations at Heroes Square, held in commemoration of February 25th, the Day of Soviet Occupation. I have never felt this day as strongly as I do today because the possibility of history repeating itself is more visible than ever. When so many citizens across Georgia are defending the country’s sovereignty and independence, and at the same time, we have a regime in power that serves as the Kremlin’s foothold in Georgia, the fact that they no longer even mention Russia on Occupation Day proves yet again that there is an entire information campaign aimed at erasing Russia’s trace as an aggressor—not only in the August 2008 war but even in the 1921 occupation."

Akubardia also responded to Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili’s accusation against the opposition, in which he compared them to Sergo Orjonikidze.

"What greater misfortune can befall a person who considers himself Georgian than to support the Kremlin and serve the enemy’s interests?"

"The methods they use come straight from the Kremlin’s playbook—disinformation, manipulation, rewriting history. Just as Putin accused us of genocide and blamed us for the war, Ivanishvili is doing the same by trying to pin the war on Georgia instead of Russia, which was the actual aggressor. That’s why they created the so-called investigative commission—to shift the blame for the war onto Georgia again.

When Georgian Dream’s main propagandist says that Russia’s victory in Ukraine is in their interest, and Georgian Dream repeats the same, it becomes crystal clear whose interests they are serving. What greater misfortune can befall a person who considers himself Georgian than to support the Kremlin and serve the enemy’s interests? No matter what Shalva Papuashvili or Irakli Kobakhidze—who thinks of himself as prime minister—say, it is absolutely clear whom they serve and where they stand," Akubardia stated.
