Tina Bokuchava: If the platform is formed around Salome Zurabishvili, we will be ready to participate – we must set everything aside and unite for the future

"If [an alternative political unity] platform is formed around Salome Zurabishvili, of course, we will be ready to participate in it," said Tina Bokuchava, chair of the "United National Movement," during the "360 Degrees" program on Palitra News.

According to Tina Bokuchava, decisions on this matter should not be delayed.

"I believe that decisions should not be dragged out. How long have we been in this situation? People have been on the streets for 100 days, many have been imprisoned for this long, they are on hunger strikes, suffering from inhumane treatment. What more needs to happen in this country for political forces to make a decision on this? If there is no real possibility for unity, and if a wrong or insincere decision is made even now, the 'United National Movement' will continue to fight against Ivanishvili’s regime in the future," Bokuchava stated.

She also noted a key difference in positions between the "United National Movement" and Salome Zurabishvili, specifically regarding her failure to use her presidential pardon powers in relation to Mikheil Saakashvili.

"We have one very significant difference in positions regarding President Salome Zurabishvili, which I believe is a fundamental issue—at least for me personally, as well as for the 'United National Movement' and all our supporters. President Zurabishvili did not use her presidential power to grant a pardon. If this is a civilizational war—if we must either become part of the civilized world, maintain our statehood, or become Russia’s backyard, one of its provinces, and a target of its influence, with Ivanishvili ruling this country—then it is unacceptable for the person who opened the path for Georgia toward the European Union and NATO, who put Georgia on the international map, to be in prison.

I believe this was not a fair decision, but it was her choice. Nevertheless, President Saakashvili is ready to do whatever is necessary for the country. We must set everything aside and unite for the future," Bokuchava stated.
