Tina Bokuchava: March 31 should be set as a kind of deadline, because if the unity is ephemeral, unrealistic and utopian, then we should end the false talk about this and all parties should act within their capabilities

The insurmountable difference between the National Movement and President Zurabishvili will remain that she did not make a decision to pardon President Saakashvili - history will evaluate this fact as one Western president who did not pardon another Western president and left him in captivity of Ivanishvili’s Russian regime, - Tina Bokuchava, the chairwoman of the Unity - National Movement, told journalists.

According to her, the release of Mikheil Saakashvili would be a very important statement on the part of Salome Zurabishvili.

“It is clear that his pardon would not lead to Saakashvili’s release, however, in this important civilizational struggle, where in reality on one side is a free, Western, pro-European Georgia and on the other side is Ivanishvili’s Russian regime, moral political clarity is very important, and in this sense this would be a very important statement from President Salome Zurabishvili,” Bokuchava said.

As Bokuchava explained, Mikheil Saakashvili’s request to his supporters and the National Movement was to participate in all formats that serve the unity of the opposition.

According to Tina Bokuchava, March 31 should be set as a kind of deadline, because if unity is truly ephemeral and utopian, then the “fake talk” must end – all parties must act within their capabilities.

"Despite the fact that we consider Salome Zurabishvili's decision not to pardon the third president to be extremely unfair, President Saakashvili himself asked his supporters and the National Movement to participate in all formats that serve the unity of the opposition. However, decisions must be made here as well. I hope that March 31 will be an opportunity for this and we should set this as a kind of deadline, because if this unity is truly ephemeral, unrealistic and utopian, then we should end the false talk about this and all parties should act within their capabilities to defeat Ivanishvili's regime. The National Movement promotes unity in every respect. We believe that this is the most correct way to win, however, this is a democracy where everyone has the constitutional right to determine their own "modus operandi" and we cannot force anyone to unite in a large common positional front, where we would be ready to coordinate with everyone, including Salome Zurabishvili," Bokuchava said.
