Georgia's third president addresses the "United National Movement" with proposals and suggests introducing a new method for decision-making, where all major decisions should be made through consultations with voters, the party's "leadership," and based on the principle of parity, electronically and by voting.
As he writes on social media, now is not the time for fatigue or giving up, but for mobilization and offense.
"My proposals for the 'United National Movement': Since 2012, Georgia has been governed by a collaborationist regime that has turned into a pure Russian dictatorship. The Russians brought Ivanishvili to power through a special operation to remove me, halt Georgia's successful development, return the Georgian people to slavery, and discredit an exemplary model for our entire region and the world. Since then, the Russian regime has been working in a hybrid manner to achieve all these goals.
The fact is stubborn – their main target is me and the 'National Movement,' as the creators of the modern Georgian state and a success on a global scale. They plan to ban the party and destroy me. Now that elections are no longer held and repression is widening, the role of political parties is entirely changing. Among them, we must rethink the role and methods of struggle for our party. We must transform from a classic political party into a resistance movement, and the main task of this movement is to defeat dictatorship and restore democracy. At the same time, we must remember that dictatorship is now aimed at completely removing our party from the political battlefield, and we must never allow this to happen.
Of course, one of our main goals, as it has been so far, remains uniting the entire political spectrum, but at the same time, the decision-making mechanisms within the 'National Movement' itself must change. People need to feel that this is their party, their political home, where they are the masters.
The party cannot be run by my letters or decisions made by a narrow, even if very talented, group. We have always been innovators in Georgia, and now I propose that we introduce a completely new method for decision-making – all major decisions should be made electronically and by voting. Decisions will be made through consultations with our voters, the party’s 'leadership,' and me, based on the principle of parity. In this way, we will make decisions on forms of protest, participation or non-participation in elections, after we achieve free elections – on electoral lists, political alliances with other parties, and internal personnel matters will be decided only by electronic voting. This system will institutionalize the party's supporters.
This will include our registered compatriots worldwide, who will pay a symbolic membership fee, receive constant information from the party, and share their ideas with us. At the same time, party members remain in a special position, as they participate in decision-making, both directly and through the governing bodies of the party they have elected.
In recent years, a very idealistic and combative group of young people has entered the party, and they will continue to strengthen their positions, both in managing the party and in Georgia's future government. At the same time, the UNM has a whole army of experienced fighters who played a decisive role in the most successful 9-year period in Georgia's history, and on whose shoulders the Russian occupation regime passed like a millstone. The fact that these people remain in the party points to their true heroism. These people deserve special respect and honor, and their experience is invaluable in the task of saving Georgia once again. The very existence of Georgia is now in question. Therefore, now is not the time for fatigue or giving up, but for mobilization and offense.
Also, organizational issues: I ask Tika Bokuchava, Levan Khabeishvili, Giorgi Baramidze, Irakli Pavlenishvili, and Levan Sanikidze to develop proposals for creating new decision-making mechanisms for the party and an electronic application, and we will formalize this reform by including it in the party’s charter. Of course, my request is that we thoroughly discuss these proposals with the party's activists and make the final decision based on their input. Additionally, it is essential to establish an adequate functional office for the party so that people have a permanent location for meetings and interactions," writes Mikheil Saakashvili.
