As a result of complex investigative and operational-search measures carried out within the framework of counter-terrorist operations, the State Security Service of Georgia has detained a foreign citizen wanted by an Interpol circular at the initiative of a foreign country in the city of Rustavi.
As stated in the information released by the State Security Service, the investigation established that the person traveled to the Middle East in 2014 and joined the ranks of the terrorist organization Islamic State operating in the region.
According to the Counter-Terrorist Center, the detained person has combat experience and is a highly qualified specialist in explosive devices.
"The person was responsible for particularly important activities in a terrorist organization. As a result of the search, various types of evidence and electronic information-carrying devices important for the investigation were seized from the detainee's residence. The investigation is being conducted by the Counter-Terrorist Center of the State Security Service," reads the information.
