This [Irakli Kobakhidze's letter] is shameful, it shows the complete despair of the government. There is a lot of concern in the ranks of Georgian Dream, this letter is a manifestation of this, - this is how the fifth President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, responded to the open letter of Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, in which he addresses the US government.
As Zurabishvili noted, this letter is an indicator of the moral and political collapse of this government.
"I urge the public to read the so-called Prime Minister's letter to the US President. This is, first of all, shameful. Neither protocol nor friendly relations are preserved here, and the letter no longer bears any sign of this. I don't know who wrote it, I don't know in what mood this letter was written, but we should look at what is clear. The complete despair of the government is clear. This is probably the first result of the fact that Bidzina Ivanishvili has not been able to solve anything, nor will he be able to solve anything. He will not be able to solve the consequences of the MEGOBARI Act and it is clear that there is a lot of nervousness in the ranks of Georgian Dream. This letter is a manifestation of this. I am very interested in whether the US President will ever read this. Perhaps he is not free for this today, he is less free, but whoever reads it, it is very sad, it will be shocking for them. A letter from a country that America has been helping in every way and form for more than 30 years will be shocking. America, which practically gave us an army, prepared it to have modern standards, helped us to put the Georgian economy in its place, and for 30 years we were one of the first beneficiaries of American aid. This is our response. This is traditional Georgian gratitude. I don’t know where our traditions are being lost, but this is an indicator of the moral and political collapse of this government, this is what we need to see today,” Salome Zurabishvili said.
Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze sent an open letter to the President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, and Vice President of the United States of America, J.D. Vance. As Kobakhidze notes, he addressed the US with a letter regarding Georgian-American relations several weeks ago, but has not received a response so far.
In his letter, Kobakhidze discusses the sanctions imposed on Georgian government officials and, addressing the US administration, says that it is perplexing that they are harshly criticizing Biden’s decisions, but have not yet reversed any of his criminal decisions.
In addition, according to Kobakhidze, there is a striking alignment of values of the Georgian government and the US administration.
He also spoke about the “deep state”. He hopes that the US administration will actually be able to defeat the “deep state”, “which will undoubtedly affect the reset of Georgian-American relations and the restoration of strategic partnership”.
