Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Aleksandre Darakhvelidze calls the fact that Simon Vanderbroek, an employee of the European Union Delegation, was not allowed into Georgia a “technical error.”
According to him, communication was established with the European Union Embassy regarding the issue and it was explained that Vanderbroek has the opportunity to enter Georgia normally and benefit from the diplomatic immunity granted to him by international acts.
The Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs says that “the incident has been resolved.”
"I would like to remind you that a similar incident has indeed happened, although it was a certain type of technical error. The relevant agencies had a conversation with a specific diplomat regarding the issue. Our position was that this was not a deliberate action, it was a certain kind of mistake, therefore, it was explained that this person has the right to enter Georgia and enjoy diplomatic privileges as usual, which is determined by the Vienna Convention and relevant legal acts. So, the incident has been resolved and I think it is not worth talking about it any longer," Darakhvelidze said.
