What happened in Chorchana was a mini-model of what happened in 2008, when the Saakashvili regime started the war - Giorgi Gakharia did not inform anyone at all, and this raises doubts, - Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze told journalists.

According to him, Giorgi Gakharia did not inform the Prime Minister, nor the heads of law enforcement agencies, nor the European Union Monitoring Mission about the establishment of a checkpoint in the village of Chorchana.

"There is information that at one time, Giorgi Gakharia, who was the Minister of Internal Affairs at the time, did not inform anyone about the actions he planned. Maia Tskitishvili was the Minister of Infrastructure then and he did not inform either the head of the State Security Service, the Prime Minister, or any other law enforcement agency, and he informed only the Minister of Infrastructure. I personally know from Mamuka Bakhtadze that he was not informed about this. He did not inform anyone at all, which in itself raises doubts. If nothing problematic was happening, why did he not inform anyone?! This means, to put it mildly, that Mr. Giorgi Gakharia was doing something strange. This is a very simple logical conclusion that we can draw from all this in reality.

What happened in Chorchana was a mini-model of what happened in 2008, when Saakashvili’s regime started a war and you know what the consequences were. Chorchana was a mini-model of this, a wrong step was taken, which resulted in the occupation of an additional million square meters of our country’s territory. Of course, this is subject to discussion,” Kobakhidze said.

As for the question about Giorgi Gakharia’s appointment as Prime Minister, Kobakhidze once again stated that after serving as Minister of Internal Affairs, Gakharia was promoted to Prime Minister due to a call from the “deep state.”

“I have made my comment on this. There was a call from the “deep state” and this was followed by his appointment as Prime Minister. Ultimately, everything continued and ended in the way that was in the interests of our country. At a certain stage, it was necessary to make some compromises with the “deep state”, but you can see that today we are no longer making such compromises,” Kobakhidze said.

Journalists also reminded him of his positive statements about Gakharia, to which he replied that his statement was about managing the coronavirus pandemic.

“It was about managing Covid,” Kobakhidze said.
