Kakha Kaladze: I am proud that through the projects we have implemented, we have created multiple centers of attraction in the city – people of all generations are enjoying the squares and parks

Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze summarized the activities carried out in the direction of environmental protection policy. The event, attended by Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, was held in Zghvisubani Park. This information was disseminated by the Tbilisi City Hall.

According to their statement, during his speech, the mayor of the capital focused primarily on Zghvisubani Park, which was in a dire condition before its rehabilitation.

“Years ago, Zghvisubani Park was essentially a swamp, in a deplorable state with unbearable conditions. When we came here and met with the local residents, we promised that this space would be fully restored, rehabilitated, and we would create the largest city park of municipal significance in the capital. Zghvisubani Park is the largest recreational space, covering 25 hectares. It warms my heart to see people come here—every condition has been created for citizens to relax and unwind,” said Kakha Kaladze.

He also noted that in the first year of coming to power, they changed the “harmful practice that had been established under the previous government.”

“The most important and significant thing we did in 2017 was to completely change the harmful practice that had been established—recreational spaces were being sold off for subsequent construction work. Of course, we are not against construction, but it should not come at the expense of recreational spaces or sports fields. We had to repurchase specific spaces and return them to the municipality. Naturally, we will continue this approach to create as many green spaces as possible. I am very proud that through our implemented projects, we have created numerous attractive centers in the city. People of all generations enjoy the squares and parks. It is very gratifying that we have introduced this culture, and Tbilisi’s parks are full of residents,” the mayor of the capital stated.

While speaking about specific implemented projects, Kakha Kaladze expressed gratitude to the charitable foundation “Cartu,” which is supporting the renovation of the Mtatsminda slope.

“The projects implemented within the framework of environmental protection policy are remarkable. Everyone can see how our city is changing for the better. Of course, we will not stop here; we have ambitious plans and the knowledge to make our city even better. I want to thank the Cartu Foundation, Bidzina Ivanishvili, and his family, because under Bidzina Ivanishvili’s leadership, a very important project is being carried out—the greening of the Mtatsminda slope, which is considered Tbilisi’s so-called lungs and is in a dire condition. The entire slope, covering 400 hectares, is being renovated,” said Kakha Kaladze.

The summary of activities carried out within the framework of Tbilisi City Hall’s environmental protection policy was attended by the Speaker of the Parliament Shalva Papuashvili, the Chairman of the City Council Zurab Abashidze, members of the government and the city council, representatives of the municipality, and specialists in the field.
