Irakli Kobakhidze: Against the backdrop of a rather complicated situation around us, it is very important to further deepen cooperation with Armenia - there is further potential for developing cooperation in all directions

“We see that a rather complicated situation has been created around us; especially against this backdrop, it is very important to further deepen cooperation between our countries. Despite the high level of cooperation, there is further potential for developing this cooperation in all directions,” stated Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze during a joint briefing with his Armenian counterpart Nikol Pashinyan.

According to him, Georgia will spare no effort to contribute to peace and stability in the region.

“Today, the 15th session of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation between Georgia and Armenia was held, with representatives from the respective governments and ministers present. A very interesting discussion took place on various topics related to cooperation between the two countries. We see that a rather complicated situation has been created around us; especially against this backdrop, it is very important to further deepen cooperation between our countries. Our peoples and countries are bound by historical friendship. This underlies the strategic partnership established between Armenia and Georgia. Of course, we are very pleased to have a high level of cooperation, but there is a constant interest in further deepening our strategic partnership and traditional friendship between the two countries. This cooperation is based on mutual respect and common interests. I would like to thank Armenia for supporting our national interests and for showing respect. I would like to express special gratitude for supporting our country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. At today’s commission session, I also thanked our friends for supporting the UN resolution on internally displaced persons. Today we discussed various issues on the bilateral agenda, touching on both political and economic cooperation, as well as cooperation in the fields of education, culture, and sports.

Once again, I would like to emphasize that despite the high level of cooperation, there is further potential for developing this cooperation in all directions. We have very good trade and economic partnership. In terms of trade turnover, Armenia is among the top ten partners of Georgia. As for tourism and visitors, Armenia ranks in the top three in this regard. Naturally, this aspect of cooperation is very valuable to us. We are pleased that there is an ever-growing interest among Georgian citizens in visiting Armenia in terms of tourism. We are pleased with the very positive dynamics in the development of cooperation in the region. We are pleased that a historic peace agreement has been signed between Armenia and Azerbaijan. These positive trends create a good foundation for all of us to jointly care for ensuring stability in our region and providing peace in our region. In this context, we once again want to emphasize our readiness to contribute to peace and stability in the region. In this regard, of course, Georgia will spare no effort. I would like to emphasize the outstanding partnership between our countries. This partnership, friendship, and cooperation is truly exemplary, and accordingly, it is our responsibility before our countries and peoples to do the maximum to further deepen this cooperation and friendship,” Kobakhidze stated.
