Giorgi Sioridze: Several months ago they filed a lawsuit, including for the banning of “Lelo,” and the Constitutional Court has not even scheduled a preliminary hearing yet - all of this is a spectacle that Ivanishvili and his regime intend to stage

Several months ago they filed a lawsuit, including for the banning of “Lelo,” and the Constitutional Court has not even scheduled a preliminary hearing yet — all of this is a spectacle that Ivanishvili and his regime intend to stage, — this was stated by one of the leaders of “Lelo — Strong Georgia,” Giorgi Sioridze, in response to Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze’s statement regarding the amendment of the lawsuit on banning parties.

According to him, “this is yet another demonstration of how ‘Georgian Dream’ uses the Constitutional Court, legislation, and the Constitution to achieve anti-national goals.”

Irakli Kobakhidze announced that the list of parties to be banned will be expanded. This is yet another proof that this process has no legal or constitutional basis whatsoever. Several months ago they filed a lawsuit, including for the banning of ‘Lelo,’ and the Constitutional Court has not even scheduled a preliminary hearing yet. All of this is a spectacle that Ivanishvili and his regime intend to stage. Whenever they want, whenever they decide, that is when they will act against opposition parties. This contradicts the principles of democracy, international standards, and the Constitution of Georgia. We have challenged the legislation they adopted with our own lawsuit in the Constitutional Court, but naturally there has been no reaction whatsoever. This is yet another demonstration of how they use the Constitutional Court, legislation, and the Constitution to achieve their anti-national goals,” — stated Sioridze.

For information: During his comments on the “opposition alliance,” Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze stated that “we will have to amend the lawsuit we filed with the Constitutional Court. We will need to change the names of the parties due to the new configuration.”
