There are those who say that Georgia is lost. This is not true. Yes, today the Georgian people are experiencing one of the most difficult periods in recent history, however, Georgia is truly not lost, - stated European Parliament member Rasa Juknevičienė during her speech in the European Parliament.
According to her, "proof of this is the letter that I received yesterday from Elene Khoshtaria," in which Elene Khoshtaria writes:
"I cannot express in words how grateful I am when I see your unwavering, uninterrupted support and loyalty toward Georgia, toward our fight for European values. It is invaluable to have friends like you in these difficult times.
It is the greatest honor for me that my name is part of the agenda of the hearing held on the issue of Georgia. However, it is clear that the main focus is not me, but the Georgian people, who have shown incredible resilience in the fight against Russia. This is not a fight for the freedom of one person; this is a fight to defend the dignity of the nation and its European choice.
I want you to know that I am ready to be in prison for as long as necessary, and I do not regret my personal imprisonment. Far more important is that sufficient attention be given to the strategic challenges that Europe faces today in Georgia. And you are truly succeeding in this.
It is possible that Bidzina Ivanishvili wants to use us as bargaining chips, as hostages. We must not allow this. My goal is not my personal freedom; my goal is freedom for the Georgian people.
As you know, the opposition has managed to unite in an opposition alliance, which, I believe, will give an additional push to the issue of Georgia. The sanctions imposed recently by the European Union and the United Kingdom have shown how effective these measures are.
As long as the Georgian people are firmly fighting, we political prisoners are also firmly fighting, and your steadfast support, the support of our friends, gives me faith that we will win!
Once again, thank you very much!" - writes Khoshtaria in the letter sent to Rasa Juknevičienė.
After reading the letter, the European Parliament member addressed the Georgians:
"Georgia and Georgians, you are not lost to us, to the European Union."
