The countries of the South Caucasus region should remain focused on peace, stability and security. These principles are being violated in different parts of the world - this should remain unwavering for us, there should be no losses and such events should not affect us. In the South Caucasus, we are seen as a region of peace, stability and cooperation, - Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, who is on a visit to Georgia, stated at the joint briefing held at the Government Administration together with Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze.
He thanked the Prime Minister and the government of Georgia for their contribution to establishing peace in the region.
“We also talked about the new reality that has been created in the South Caucasus. The countries in this region must remain focused on peace, stability and security, because these principles are being violated in different parts of the world. This must remain unwavering with us, there must be no loss and such events must not affect us. In the South Caucasus, we are seen as a region of peace, stability and cooperation. Today, I must especially emphasize that Georgia plays a very important role.
Mr. Prime Minister, you spoke about the peace process that is developing between us and Armenia, I want to say that the agreements that we are signing are not enough, because in the future, all steps must be strengthened and they must strengthen peace. These meetings, these visits are being made in this direction. We started relations with Armenia through Georgia and I am grateful to the Georgian government for this support. As for energy, for many years Azerbaijan has been reliably supporting the energy security of many countries and nations, today our natural gas is exported to 16 countries, but the export starts from and through Georgia, Georgia is the first country on this route, where Azerbaijan exports energy to international markets, all this happens through Georgia. Also, oil and natural gas resources enter Georgia from Azerbaijan and we had a talk about this, about the existing infrastructure, over the past two decades the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline has been operating successfully, the Southern Gas Corridor is also working well, this infrastructure is of great importance for many countries. We have also developed transport corridors. The middle corridor will pass through Azerbaijan and Georgia, and for us this is one of the most important and preferred arteries, on which we have great hopes that it will be strengthened and developed. In general, our agenda is rich and large-scale, new topics are being added, new ideas and projects are being added to this agenda, and we will implement all this with joint efforts.
Another issue is bilateral relations, which can serve as an example for all neighboring states, because everything is done on the basis of mutual respect and mutual trust, we take care of common interests and friendship, and this is good-neighborly and brotherly relations.
I am sure that we will always walk this successful path and I want to wish the Georgian brotherly nation peace, stability, and prosperity,” Aliyev said.
