Shalva Papuashvili – Hans Genscher is probably rolling in his grave, considering what Germany's policy towards Georgia has become

It is a tragedy when we see a mocking, arrogant attitude from representatives of the German government - Hans Genscher is probably rolling in his grave, considering what Germany's policy towards Georgia has become, - the Chairman of the Georgian Parliament Shalva Papuashvili told Georgian journalists in Istanbul.

With this, he responded to the statement of the Chairman of the European Integration Committee, Levan Makhashvili, who, after meeting with the delegation of the Weimar Triangle, stated that the Georgian side had raised a question about the information posted on the website of the German Foreign Ministry regarding Georgia, where Salome Zurabishvili is still mentioned as the president, and the German side cited a technical problem as the reason.

"I hope the Germans will be ashamed and then they will at least correct it. What should we talk to them about? They have been making a fool of themselves with such behavior for almost two years. Of course, against this background, the behavior of the German ambassador, who is exactly in this character, is no longer surprising. All this means that the German government does not recognize five million Georgians. We are nothing, Georgia with five million people, they do not consider us as people, they do not consider our choice as a choice, and they do everything as they want. Levan Makhashvili met with a delegation, where there was a representative of the German Foreign Ministry, and he tried to explain all this with technical issues. Simply put, in this case, they are trying to blame all this on IT specialists. Of course, it is a tragedy when, in the 35-year history of Georgia’s independence and diplomatic relations with Germany, we see today a mocking, arrogant attitude on the part of representatives of the German government, who do not recognize Georgians as people, do not recognize our sovereignty and our choice. This evokes very dark associations when we see a policy of disregarding an entire nation. We must draw our own conclusions.

It is unfortunate that, through the behavior of the ambassador and some German bureaucrats, the German government has caused such damage to Germany’s reputation that it will take years, indeed, to restore its damaged reputation in the eyes of Georgians. Personally, I have participated in the fact that Germany was a friend and supporter in the eyes of Georgians. Today they do not consider us human beings, although the very first article of the German constitution, taking into account Germany's past, begins with the words - human dignity is inviolable. They are violating our dignity and right to elect our own government. They are violating our sovereignty with such behavior. Hans Genscher is probably rolling in his grave, wondering what Germany's policy towards Georgia has become," said Shalva Papuashvili.
