8 parties of Opposition Alliance state that personal attacks in Mikheil Saakashvili’s statement, as it was perceived by both the alliance and a significant part of society, contradicts the alliance’s principles.

The parties of the Opposition Alliance: “Akhali”, “Girchi for More Freedom”, “Droa”, “National Democratic Party”, “European Georgia”, “Freedom Square”, “Strategy Builder”, “Federalists”, are publishing their position on the public statement made by Mikheil Saakashvili on April 18.

According to the statement, the personal attacks in Mikheil Saakashvili’s statement, as it was perceived by both the alliance and a significant part of society, contradicts the alliance’s principles, including the reservation that no party has the right to declare itself the sole representative of the opposition or protest movement or the leader of a single party or individual.

The Alliance calls on all participating parties to refrain from such “confrontational statements” in the future.

“The Alliance was created to achieve the most important goal: to liberate Georgia from Ivanishvili’s illegitimate Russian regime through close cooperation between pro-Western political forces and Georgian society.

The most important and necessary prerequisite for the Alliance’s activities is the cooperation and mutual respect among its members and the refraining from mutual attacks. Restricting a political leader (and even more so a political prisoner) from expressing his political opinion is neither the competence nor the goal of the Alliance. However, the personal attacks in Mikheil Saakashvili’s statement, as it was perceived by both the alliance and a significant part of society, contradicts the alliance’s principles, including the reservation that no party has the right to declare itself the sole representative of the opposition or protest movement or the leader of a single party or individual.

The Alliance calls on all participating parties to refrain from such actions in the future," the statement reads.

On April 18, Georgia's third president, Mikheil Saakashvili, released a statement on the social network, in which he spoke about meetings in the regions and unity with people.

In the statement, the former president does not mention specific names or party affiliations, although he said, "in order for you to be able to visit the regions, people must know that you sincerely love not only yourself, but also people."

According to him, "in order for these people to come to Rustaveli, you must first have visited them without cameras and with an open heart."

Saakashvili also writes, referring to the opposition spectrum: “You sit in warm TV studios and in the comfortable bubble of Facebook and wonder why people don’t come to Rustaveli.”

According to Saakashvili, in the regions there is only “Bidzina VS Misha and there is no place left for you. In principle, in the cities, if you go beyond the bubble, the situation is the same.”

According to Saakashvili, the majority of Bidzina Ivanishvili’s voters are his former voters who voted in 2018 and 2021, and he notes that therefore “when some of you go to the same regions with the slogan - “Neither Misha, nor Bidzina”, you naturally experience a total collapse”.

Saakashvili cites the year 2024 as an example and writes that “one not untalented and energetic politician, who was always trying to become the new Misha, but at the expense of condemning Misha, went to the regions a lot with this slogan and achieved almost nothing, and this should be a lesson”.

Saakashvili notes in the same “post” that “now Ivanishvili is increasingly appearing with his family, thus preparing to bring one of his sons to power and accustoming us to dynastic rule”.

According to Saakashvili, all this “shows us that our path cannot be Hungarian and must be Georgian, and the path of the Georgians is revolution.”

In addition, Saakashvili, in his extensive post, published on March 18, talks about his experience and his relationship with people.
