Gia Volski: No changes are planned at the level of the Prime Minister; coordinating security structures from a political position will be far more effective - an excellent decision has been made

Coordinating security structures from a political position will, of course, be far more effective - an excellent decision has been made, said First Deputy Speaker of Parliament Gia Volski while speaking about the personnel changes.

According to him, the creation of a new ministry led by Mamuka Mdinaradze will further strengthen the coordination of security agencies’ activities.

“The escalation of global confrontations is evident. The challenges related to security and state safety are quite serious. Even small countries, including Georgia, face these challenges with limited resources, but this must be compensated by strong organizational capacity, which Mamuka Mdinaradze certainly possesses. Coordinating security structures from a political position will be far more effective. There is an economic bloc, a foreign relations bloc, and education issues - the Prime Minister successfully manages all of these areas, at least judging by the results.

However, this part - which concerns the coordination of security agencies for the protection of the state and its security - will be further strengthened within the governmental structure. So, an excellent decision has been made. As for the procedure - the issue will be submitted to the Bureau and, regarding the relevant government decree, Parliament will make a decision under an expedited procedure,” Volski said.

When asked whether the next personnel change could involve the Prime Minister himself, Volski responded that no changes are planned at the Prime Minister’s level.

“Speculation about this is not new. No changes are planned at the level of the Prime Minister. If any changes occur in the government, the head of government will make an announcement at the appropriate time,” he said.

For reference, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze announced that the government structure will be expanded with a new position - State Minister for Coordination of Law Enforcement Agencies - to be held by Mamuka Mdinaradze, who will also serve as Deputy Prime Minister. Gela Geladze has been nominated as Head of the State Security Service, while Sulkhan Tamazashvili, Chairman of the Government of Adjara, has been appointed Minister of Internal Affairs.
