We have our own signature. We have our own ambition to act with a standard higher than European and American standards, - this is how Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze responded at a government session to the detention of 5 police officers for violence against politician Levan Khabeishvili, journalist Guram Rogava and protester Zviad Maisashvili.
As Irakli Kobakhidze stated, it is very important to protect this signature and standard that no case of excessive force goes unpunished, and yesterday's detention was an expression of this attitude.
"Yesterday, we arrested five representatives of law enforcement agencies who are accused of violence against specific individuals during violent rallies in November-December of last year. This fact also confirmed the special importance of coordination of law enforcement agencies. Of course, we have our own signature. We have our ambition to act with a standard higher than European and American. With a high standard of humanity even when the state has to confront violent attempts to change the constitutional order. We have shown this signature once again. It is very important to protect this signature and standard that no case of excessive force should go unpunished. Yesterday's fact, the arrest of the relevant individuals, was an expression of this attitude. When we see a violation of the law, of course, the state must respond there," Kobakhidze said.
The Prime Minister thanked the relevant agencies.
“Once again, I would like to thank all law enforcement agencies, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, each police officer, especially each employee of the Special Tasks Department, as well as the State Security Service, the Special State Protection Service. All relevant agencies and employees who successfully prevented 4 violent attempts to change the constitutional order in 2024-2025. Let me remind you that there were 5 such attempts over the past 4 years, 4 of which were violent. First of all, it is thanks to the efficient work of law enforcement agencies that we successfully prevented 4 violent attempts. Thanks go to each employee of the law enforcement structure. Thank you to them, I wish everyone success. The state will continue to do its utmost to protect the dignity of law enforcement agencies and constantly improve the conditions of employees,” Kobakhidze said.
