A spy is always a spy and espionage, and being a spy always means committing treason against one's homeland, - Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze told journalists about the arrest of Giorgi Udzilauri on charges of espionage.
According to the head of government, the state will be principled towards anyone who decides to be an agent in favor of another state, against their own country.
"It doesn't matter which country a spy serves. Spying is always spying, and espionage is always treason against one's homeland. At one time, specific people, politicians, even tried to popularize espionage when it came to being agents of specific states. It doesn't matter who the spy is, a spy always betrays the interests of his homeland, he always expresses his readiness to stand against the interests of his own state, therefore, this arrest should be an example for everyone. Whoever decides to be an agent in favor of another state, against his own country, the state will be principled towards everyone.
In order for us to be careful about relations between states, we will not name the relevant state. But a clear warning to everyone - it doesn't matter whose spy you are. Espionage is always a crime against your own homeland, and therefore the state will be especially principled in this regard," the Prime Minister said.
